Tears for Zimbabwe

Today a woman died.

As I rose out of my bed they bound her.
As I washed my hair they cut off her hands.
As I drank my coffee they cut off her feet.

Today a woman died.

As I walked out my front door they locked her in her hut.
As I started my car they started her home on fire.
As I laughed with friends over lunch she burned.

Today a woman died.

She died for freedom.
She died for the hungry.
She died for the defenseless.

Her name was Dadirai.

Today a woman died.
And tomorrow another.
