Two nights ago I was looking at pictures of my YFC kids, and God put it on my heart that they need school supplies. So I prayed that God would provide the supplies they need, and with a sense of assurance went to sleep.
The next afternoon, without a mention of my prayer to anyone, a friend asked me how many backpacks full of supplies I needed for my Jefferson kids. Without hesitation I told her the number, and that was that, they should have them next week.
It wasn't until a couple hours later I realized how unthankful I am. I responded to my friend without excitement, I guess because the blessing was expected. More importantly, I didn't respond to God at all...until later that is.
God's faithfulness astounds me. Ask and you will recieve (Matthew 7:7). I have seen this time and time again, and believe it with all my heart. I know that my kids having school supplies is in God's will, and I prayed accordingly, and God provided. The part that scares me is that I could see something so extraordinary as ordinary that I fail to fall face down and give thanks.
My prayer is that I should live by faith, not complacency. There should never be a time when God's everyday miracles, acts of love and provision for his children, are not recognized as just that. May there never be a moment that passes that I do not give thanks to my King.
As you go about your day I pray would open your eyes to the miracles around you.
Blessings-
Rebecca

My handsome boys
Today Vicki and I conquered an amazing feat; we gave Chester, our English Bulldog (who I lovingly call Chesteroni) and Doobie, our 7 month old Pitbull baths. Oh, the adventure we had. I really wish I had pictures to share with you of this monumental event, but unfortunetly we needed every hand to get the task done.
The first challenge was actually getting Chester outside and in the wagon. He is a bit of an odd dog, and feels the need to attack the hose. That along with the fact that he wiggled his way out of his collar while getting him outside made the wagon a necessary part of the bathing process. (Just the fact that we have a specialty wagon for Chesteroni tells you a lot about the kind of dog he is. We use the wagon on walks because a) he can't breathe, and b) along with hose he also feels the need to attack the leash.)
Then there is Doobie who for some reason does not like getting wet, and, by the way, is very fast. Once we had him held down and the process started he did pretty well...but as soon as we let go he was off and away.
Between the weightlifting (getting Chesteroni in and out of the wagon) and the cardio (chasing the dogs around the yard), we definitely had a great workout. And when it was all said and done, we had two good looking and not so bad smelling dogs...and, well, two water soaked frazzled hair exhausted women.
Here are the after pics of my handsome boys :)

Full House
Last night I had a bunch of my Youth for Christ Jefferson kids over for dinner and games and lots of fun. I am blessed to live with a family who has not only opened up their home to me, but also to my friends, family, and crazy inner-city kids from time to time.
The kids had an absolute blast. They got to dress up, make pizzas, be served, and have their bellies filled. It was sometime towards the end of the evening, when there were a dozen kids running around the house and screaming in a hardcore game of hide-and-go-seek, when I felt that overwhelming call to community living. I have felt it before, but have not yet been able to financially make the move.
Some people may think I am crazy to want to live downtown and have my home filled with kids all the time, but that is really what I long for. So where do I go from here to make that happen? I am not so sure, but I pray God will open the door for a full house of my own.
